The development of painting as an art form has been going from strength to strength in the past few years. The diversification of genres has been so rampant that even cloud painting, something that was considered to be an integral part of any out door painting, has assumed the stature of being an independent genre of painting. Besides the mainstay genres in paintings like landscapes, portraits and figurative paintings have also been digging deep into the hearts of the lovers of this art.
Painting clouds has been catching the imagination of artists since primordial times. Even the cavemen in their paintings have made some flawless depictions of the clouds. Even today, clouds continue to be an integral part of the modern canvas. Clouds are something that signifies not one but very many things. They epitomize not just beauty, but can also reflect the face of death.
The Eternal in Clouds
Even the most eminent historians and the most prominent scientists have not been able to determine the possible age of clouds. The clouds are both young and old just like the way they are both white and grey; no wonder they have been catching the frenzy of artists since great many days. Cloud painting has been evolving as a prominent genre largely based in this freshness of form that the clouds indicate.
Clouds: The Embodiment of Mother Nature
In a way clouds represent the simple yet eternal cycle of Nature. Tacit in other objects of nature, this cycle is most prominently visible in the clouds. The vast clouds in the sky also signify the vastness of Mother Nature Herself. The rain from the clouds shows how Mother Nature cares for her children. The way the clouds cover the Sun in scorching heat serves testimony to the same. In a nutshell, the Cloud can be considered to be a dynamic expression of the mother herself.
Cloud ands Paintings: Where Lies the Synergy?
If not anything else, paint artists are always intrigued by elements that have an air of mystery about them. Like in all other object of the universe, there exists an enigmatic synergy between clouds and painters, two invaluable treasures of nature. It can be noticed that most artists with a flair for figurative paintings get drawn towards clouds involuntarily. Though it is debatable, an ancient theory suggests that even the clouds follow painters. Again the verity of the theory is largely engulfed by a nimbus of enigma.
The Air of Enigma about the Clouds
There must be something in the clouds that keeps intriguing the painters. In his poem, ‘The Cloud’, one of the greatest nature poets, Shelley has personified clouds as a powerful yet caring agent of Nature. The cloud assumes paramount role when it proclaims the upper hand that it bears over lightning and thunder. In the last few lines of the poem, the Cloud goes on to explain about its own reappearance on the sky after a shower of rainfall; renewing our mystery about the cloud.
White Painting and the Cloud
The advancement in cloud paintings has come largely due to the emergence of the genre of white paintings. Painters now employ not just the brush and the canvas. A myriad of technological advances have also come into the scenario, making an already artful genre all the more graceful.
