A national park in Costa Rica that closed down for sixteen months, has reopened to the public with a new online booking system and safety measures.
The total stay at the Poas Volcano National Park will be Forty minutes: Ten minutes walking on the trek to get to the crater viewpoint, Twenty minutes at the crater viewpoint, and Ten minutes walking back. There is no access to Botos Lagoon and in case of fog, there is no extra waiting time as we used to do in the past.
Due to the altitude and activity of the Poás Volcano, this tour is not recommended to any person with heart conditions, high blood pressure, people who have had recent surgery, pregnant women or children.
As we ascend the mountain, we will notice a change in temperature and vegetation; we will see coffee plantations as well as fern, flower and strawberry farms along the way, creating a beautiful array of colors and visuals.
The park is hoping to lure back visitors to explore its natural wonders. The park covers 16,000 acres in the province of Alajuela, just 30 miles north of the capital city of Poas Volcano San José.
It has long been popular with travelers for its incredible volcano crater lake, as well as being an accessible spot to reach walking trails that wind through cloud forests from the capital. The main volcano – the 8900-foot-high Poás – is one of six active volcanoes in the country.
Poas Volcano National Park has trails, observatories, coffee shop, souvenir shop, health services, and picnic areas; besides offering some facilities for people with physical disabilities, as well as service of guided walks in the morning and at night.
